Stay ahead of the fash-pack - tips to shopping in Boxing Day sales

Hitting the shops this Boxing Day to see what the retailers have on offer? Good choice!

Usually, Boxing day and January sales feature current season markdowns but occasionally retailers also take out left over Summer stock to get sell off. Fashion trends tend to follow a pattern so it’s likely that some on-trend pieces for summer 2013 will be back in style for 2014.

Think tactically before hitting the shops. Department stores are a good idea as everything can be found under one roof. Head to Harrods in London for great designer discounts up to 60% off, this sale starting at 10am on Boxing Day and running throughout January 2014. For more designer bargains head to Harvey Nichols who will feature up to 50% off in store.

Can’t be bothered bashing through the crowds? Try theoutnet.com, who had a massive 70% off attractive designer goodies for Boxing Day last year, we predict the same this time round.

Preparation is key! Make a list of items you need for next season and bear in mind the following trends for S/S 2014:

Metallic clothing, metallic leather accessories, or pieces with a sheen and light reflecting surfaces. These kind of textures were popular on Catwalks for S/S 14. Look for sugary pastels - pale pink and baby blue on metallic surfaces. This trend shown on David Koma, Preen, Felder Felder and Burberry Prorsum. If you’re after a brand spanking new bag, something along the lines of the shiny Anthropology satchel for S/S will do the trick.

Another fabric to look for is lace. Pastel shades in lace like Burberrys or vibrant juicy pops of lace and croquet like L’Wren Scott or Bora Aksu’s collection.

Fringing detail on clothing and bags were large on the Catwalks, CarrieMe’s favourite were these Gucci bags!

Finally, we predict Japanese inspired silhouettes such as kimono shapes for sophisticated S/S style.

Our favourites from the London Fashion Week Phenomenon!

This is a busy week, London Fashion Week is one of the main four catwalk destinations beside Paris, Milan, and New York.  With over fifty six shows over 5 days, you can definitely get your Fashion Fix here. For those who weren't lucky enough to visit LFW do not fear! CarrieMe is here to provide an update. London has a fantastic reputation for up and coming talent, and catwalk beauties such as the stunning London 'IT Girl' of the moment Cara Delevingne.

Designer Marios Schwab showcased a collection of spectacular epic evening dresses, our favorite being a floor-length nude dress, embellished in Swarovski crystals. This collection named 'Petrus Christus's Portrait of the Young Lady' has a strong renaissance, regal glamour, yet Marios Schwab made the theme 21st century by using unusual fabrics such as lacquered lace with embroidered PVC.  Trench coats over velvet mini dresses were also one of our favourite looks and we loved the colour palette of Petrol Blue, Lavender, Pale Pink and Oxblood Red.

Model Arizona Muse, Twiggy and Olivia Palermo were front row at British designer Matthew Williamson's show. The designer exhibited his signature ethnic, eclectic detailing within an exciting show of 'Northern Lights' inspired by the North Pole with strobes pumping out pretty prints and patterns.  Of course, Matthew couldn't resist introducing some of his trademark sunny shades: canary yellow, bright orange, green and pink, which wouldn't look out of place in Ibiza!  Loose knits and roll neck sweaters featured throughout his A/W 13 Collection.

Mick Jagger's other half L'Wren Scott, showcased at LFW for the first time, a very luxurious collection of genuine gold jewellery embellishments built into garments and 23 carat gold leaf shoes!  The collection was inspired by artist Gustav Klimt during the 'Golden Period' and included classic tailored silhouettes, some decorated in sparkling embroidery motifs such as serpents and leaves, which pay tribute to the muse - Gustav Klimt. Loving L'Wrens model troop of fluffy blond afro's!

What will you be wearing next season?

We've reviewed the fabulous colours that will be coming up next Spring and Summer, but what textures or materials will we be wearing?  After the aggressive studs this year, we're hoping for something soft and light.

Versace's on trend Colbalt blue dress, is all about the black lace detail. Intricate and delicate yet adding a touch of high fashion, it's perfect for the hot summer evening,  So show your sassy side, and strut the dance floor with attitude.

After a night out, take a more demure, lacey look in  Valentino's white lace dress - perfect for Afternoon Tea at the Ritz. We love the vintage yet chic feel. The light weight lace, is perfect for the warm summer days.

If you are looking for that extra va va voom, look no further than the flamenco inspired ruffles on velvet show cased by Balenciaga. The extra movement created, will ensure you will be adding that extra bounce to your Salsa steps. We love how the tropic inspired pink pops against the black peplum ruffle construction.

Here, at CarrieMe, we definitely want to be showered with floaty emerald tones. We chose Gucci as our top pick. The emerald green in line with the 1970's inspired ruffles, created the perfect feminine look. The ruffles added depth  and texture to the straight flowing dress -  what more could we ask for?
